Keeping plants healthy and vibrant is rewarding, but wilting is a sign that something’s off in their care. With the right practices, you can prevent this and keep your plants thriving.
1. Understand Water Needs
Different plants need different amounts of water. Succulents and cacti require less, while tropical plants need more frequent watering. Use the finger test or a moisture meter to avoid overwatering or underwatering.
2. Choose the Right Soil
Soil impacts root health and moisture retention. Use well-draining mixes for potted plants. Refresh soil every few years to restore nutrients.
3. Ensure Proper Drainage
Pots should have drainage holes. If not, add gravel or stones at the bottom. Keep pots elevated to allow water to escape freely.
4. Use Mulch
A 2–3 inch layer of mulch outdoors helps retain moisture, regulate temperature, and suppress weeds. Keep mulch away from stems to prevent rot.
5. Water at the Right Time
Water in the early morning to reduce evaporation and allow foliage to dry. Late afternoon is the second-best option—avoid watering at night.
6. Provide Adequate Sunlight
