I bought a used laptop from a friend. I noticed a folder named “PRIVATE.” I clicked it
, and dozens of videos appeared—images from a webcam. I froze. It was me… in my room.
I called my friend, who was silent for a moment, then said, “What do you mean? I formatted the laptop before selling it. And what do you mean by a folder named “PRIVATE”? I’ve never had such a folder.”
I was completely lost. I took it to a repair shop, and they said it was probably a virus, but there was no explanation for how my own images ended up there. I got rid of the computer, and now I approach my friend with the utmost caution.

My wife noticed a flashing light in our Airbnb’s smoke detector. I unscrewed it and found a hidden camera. We packed our bags and left in a hurry.
