The 15-year-old was initially attended to by school nurses and the principal before being airlifted to a trauma center, where he later died.
The suspect, whose name has not been released, fled the school but was apprehended “within minutes” with the help of community members. The shooting happened on the suspect’s first day at the school, although it’s now four days into the school year.
Sheriff Jeff Gahler reported that only one shot was fired, and the gun has not yet been recovered. The motive behind the altercation remains unclear. The suspect has a history with law enforcement, with over ten previous incidents involving him since 2022, either as a victim, witness, or suspect.
