5 Bad Kitchen Cleaning Habits You Should Break ASAP

Do you think you’re doing everything right? See if you have any of these bad kitchen cleaning habits that you should break as soon as possible.

1. Start from the bottom.

After my family eats dinner, there’s one place that really looks awful: the floor. It’s amazing how much food my preschoolers manage to spill, and honestly, I make a mess when I’m preparing, too. But if I follow my gut instinct, which is to tackle that mess as soon as possible, I’m breaking one of the most important rules that applies whether you’re doing a big cleanup or just cleaning every night: Start at the top. When you dust or wipe down countertops, debris will inevitably fall onto your freshly cleaned floors. So even if they’re a real shame, leave the floors for last!

2. Clean all surfaces in the same way.

It says “multi-purpose,” right? While a sponge and spray cleaner can hit many surfaces, you risk damaging more delicate materials—like stainless steel, wood, or marble—if you use the same cleaner everywhere.
