A tragic accident has shaken the Carbonelli Beach Club, a popular summer destination, after Adriano Poponessi, a 50-year-old waiter, lost his life during a lunch break. The well-respected and beloved staff member choked on a piece of mozzarella, and despite desperate attempts to save him, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
A Shocking Incident
The incident occurred during a routine lunch break. Adriano, known for his warm demeanor and professionalism, was enjoying a quick meal when a piece of mozzarella became lodged in his airway. The sticky, elastic nature of the cheese made it difficult to expel, causing fatal suffocation.
Witnesses said the bite appeared too large and was not sufficiently chewed. As he began choking, colleagues quickly noticed and sprang into action.
Rescue Attempts
Alarmed coworkers attempted first aid procedures, including trying to clear the obstruction while waiting for emergency services. Several nearby customers also offered assistance. Unfortunately, despite the rapid arrival of paramedics from emergency service 118 and prolonged resuscitation efforts, Adriano could not be revived.
The beach club temporarily suspended operations as a sign of respect and mourning.
Remembering Adriano Poponessi
Adriano had over 20 years of experience in the hospitality industry, having worked in various establishments along the coast. For the past few seasons, he had become a familiar face at Lido Carbonelli, appreciated for his smile, kindness, and dedication to customer service.
News of his sudden death spread quickly, prompting an outpouring of grief. Social media filled with messages of condolence from colleagues, friends, and patrons, many of whom remembered him as a “true professional” and “a man of warmth and generosity.”
What Caused the Accident?
While choking incidents are rare, they are not unheard of—especially with certain foods like mozzarella, which can be sticky and difficult to dislodge if swallowed in large pieces. Authorities have opened an investigation, but early findings suggest a tragic accident caused by improperly chewed food.
There is currently no evidence of negligence or external causes.
Statement from the Beach Club
In a brief but heartfelt message, the management of Lido Carbonelli expressed their sorrow:
“We are devastated by the sudden loss of our beloved colleague Adriano. He was a good man, always ready to lend a hand, and a valuable member of our team. Our thoughts are with his family during this time of immense grief.”
All events scheduled at the beach resort were canceled for the weekend. Many visitors left flowers and heartfelt notes at the entrance gate.
