April Webster and Nathan Fishbourne held the title of the United Kingdom’s youngest parents for years after welcoming their son in 2010. When April discovered she was pregnant, both teenagers were just 13 years old. By the time their baby, Jamie, arrived, they had only just turned 14.
Their story captured widespread media attention, provoking national conversation, shock, curiosity, and debate. The world watched closely—some with sympathy, others with judgment. But once the headlines faded and the news cycle moved on, many were left wondering what became of the young family that once dominated front pages.
Becoming a parent is life-changing at any age, and for April and Nathan, barely into adolescence, the experience was no less profound. Their journey began as schoolmates at St. Cenydd School in Caerphilly, South Wales, but their teenage romance took a dramatic turn when April discovered she was pregnant just one day before her fourteenth birthday.
Their families were stunned. April admitted she had felt “too embarrassed” to tell her parents that she and Nathan had been sexually active. The pair also revealed that they had not used contraception, with Nathan admitting he avoided it because he “didn’t like using it” after trying it once.
Nathan’s parents—Ron, a retired lorry driver, and his wife, Julie—were deeply upset at first. “I told him he had been foolish and really got at him,” Ron told The Sun at the time. “But we cannot reverse the past. There’s no way we’re going to abandon him. We will welcome Jamie into our family.”
On April’s side, the initial shock soon gave way to a determination to support her. “It was a big shock at first, but we let April make the decision on whether to go through with it,” her mother, Maria, then 36, recalled.
Jamie was born in November 2010 via dramatic cesarean section. His arrival was not without complications: he was diagnosed with a malformed oesophagus that made feeding difficult. The newborn, weighing 8 pounds 14 ounces, spent 11 days in the hospital before undergoing surgery, after which doctors finally declared him stable enough to go home.
Life inside the Webster household became an unconventional balancing act. April and baby Jamie shared a room with April’s 17-year-old sister, Robyn, who often helped by giving Jamie his bottle. Nathan lived several miles away with his parents, adding an additional layer of complexity to an already unusual family dynamic.
Still, April remained determined. “Although Jamie wasn’t anticipated, I will be a wonderful mother to him,” she said at the time. “I’m going to give him everything he ever wants because he’s perfect.”
The young couple was still figuring out how to navigate co-parenting. Nathan envisioned a routine: “April can have him five days a week, and I’d love to have him on the weekends.” But the status of their relationship was already uncertain. April admitted they were going through a “cooling off period” and wasn’t sure the relationship would survive.
By 2014—four years after Jamie’s birth—April confirmed that she and Nathan had officially gone their separate ways. “I broke up with Nathan about three years ago; we’re not really in contact,” she said. “I don’t want to communicate with him. I hoped Jamie and I would stick together when we first got together, but there are no regrets.”
April also revealed that she had not completed her GCSEs despite her initial plans to continue her education. “I’m just taking care of Jamie, and everything is going great with him. I’m not in school or working,” she said at the time. Fortunately, April had a strong support network. “My mom and sister love having Jamie around. He’s entertaining. I get time to relax when he goes to school in the mornings. Maybe when he’s older, I’ll go to college and take some exams. But I have no plans for more children anytime soon.”
A look at her social media today shows just how much her life has changed. Now 28 and going by April Lianna, she is the proud mother of three children: Ava Lianne, Rowan David, and Jamie Rhys. She is in a happy relationship with her partner, Jake Jones. Her journey and the steady, positive direction her life has taken are genuinely heartening.
Nathan, too, appears to be doing well. He became engaged to his partner Samantha in February 2023, and together they have built a new family with several children of their own. It is clear that he, too, has found stability and happiness.
Teen pregnancy brings significant challenges—from public scrutiny to the heavy responsibilities of raising a child far earlier than expected. Yet, despite the obstacles, both April and Nathan have grown into adulthood with resilience, creating fulfilling lives and remaining present for their son as he approaches young adulthood.
Seeing both parents doing well today—and seeing Jamie grow up surrounded by care from both sides—is a hopeful testament to their perseverance. We wish them nothing but the best in the years ahead.
