Cleaning your mattress is important not only for aesthetics, but for a real health issue. Even if you change your sheets frequently, bacteria pass through them and end up accumulating on the mattress and reproducing.
It is estimated that about a third of all bacteria found on mattresses come from our own bodies, including fecal bacteria, saliva bacteria, and dead skin cells.
Not to mention humidity, which can promote the appearance of mold whose spores are dangerous to our health.
In this article we suggest some cheap and effective DIY tricks to remove any type of stain from the mattress and make it look like new again.
1. White vinegar
This method is perfect for more recent mold stains. Mix equal parts water and white vinegar, add a few drops of liquid detergent, shake well, and spray on a cloth.
Rub the cloth on the stains and let the solution sit for a few hours. Vinegar is very effective against mold.
2. Baking soda
To remove urine stains from a mattress, simply sprinkle a little baking soda on it and let it act for 30 minutes.
After this period of time, rub a sponge soaked in water and a little detergent directly on the stain. Finally, wipe with a damp, clean cloth and let dry.
3. Hydrogen peroxide
To remove older mold stains, mix 30 milliliters of hydrogen peroxide with 1 tablespoon of baking soda. Apply the solution to a toothbrush that you no longer use.
Rub the stain well until it forms a sort of foam, and let it act for 10 minutes. Finally, remove the residue with a clean cloth.
4. Liquid detergent
Blood stains are among the most difficult to remove from a mattress. Apply a little liquid detergent to a damp cloth and place it on the stain, without rubbing.
After 15 minutes, clean with a dry cloth. If necessary, repeat the application two or three times.
5. DIY cleaner
This method is a little more laborious, but it is one of the most effective for eliminating various types of stains from the mattress.
Mix 250 ml of alcohol with 3 cups of white vinegar, 1 tablespoon of baking soda and 3 tablespoons of laundry softener.
Dip a clean cloth, wring it out, and then wipe the entire mattress. Rub more vigorously on stains.
Finally, let the mattress dry thoroughly in a well-ventilated place.
