Imagine a simple trick, one that few people know about, that could save you money on your electricity bills every month. What if the solution was right under your nose, inside your refrigerator? A simple, often-overlooked adjustment can make all the difference. Discover how to optimize your fridge’s energy consumption without compromising the freshness of your food!
A refrigerator that’s too cold: an invisible waste of energy
Your refrigerator runs 24/7. It’s essential for preserving your food, but did you know it can also be one of the biggest electricity drains in your home? Many people set it once and leave it alone, unaware that it can be costly, especially in winter.
Most refrigerators have a thermostat that can be adjusted from 1 to 5 (or 1 to 6, depending on the model). In summer, we tend to turn up the temperature to keep food fresh. But in winter, keeping the temperature too low isn’t helpful and can lead to excess energy consumption.
The trick?
Set your refrigerator to 2 or 3 in winter (or even 1 if you have little food stored). At this level, the temperature is between 2 and 5°C, which is sufficient to preserve your food without wasting energy. For the freezer, a temperature of -18°C is ideal.
