Butter 2 tablespoons
Sugar 1 teaspoon
Beef broth (low-sodium) 2 quarts
Sherry ¼ cup
Fresh thyme sprigs 2
Salt 1½ teaspoons

Gruyere cheese, sliced (or Swiss cheese) 8 ounces
Instructions:
Combine sliced onions, butter, sugar, and salt in your slow cooker.
Cover and cook on high for 7 hours, or until the onions are softened and caramelized.
