1. Check the Field Spot
Flip the watermelon over and look for a creamy yellow spot on the underside—this is known as the field spot.
✅ A rich golden-yellow or orange spot means the melon ripened in the sun and likely has a sweet, developed flavor.
🚫 A pale or white spot suggests it was harvested too early and may taste bland.
2. Look for Webbing (“Bee Stings”)
Brown, web-like lines on the rind may look like imperfections, but they’re actually a great sign.
🍯 These marks—sometimes called bee stings—are caused by pollination activity.
🌼 The more webbing, the more pollinated the fruit was, which means it’s likely to be extra sweet.
