Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1½ teaspoons baking powder
- ½ teaspoon baking soda
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- ½ teaspoon nutmeg
- ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
- ¾ cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- ½ cup milk
- 2 cups peeled and chopped apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp work best)
- Optional: ½ cup chopped walnuts or pecans
Optional Glaze:
- ½ cup powdered sugar
- 1–2 tablespoons milk
- ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
Step 1: Preheat and Prep
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×5-inch loaf pan or line with parchment paper.
Step 2: Mix Dry Ingredients
In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Set aside.
Step 3: Cream Butter and Sugar
In a large bowl, cream the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in eggs, one at a time, then stir in vanilla.
Step 4: Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients
Alternately add the dry ingredients and milk to the butter mixture, starting and ending with the dry ingredients. Stir just until combined.
Step 5: Fold in Apples
Gently fold in the chopped apples (and nuts if using). Be careful not to overmix.
Step 6: Bake
Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan. Bake for 50–60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
Step 7: Cool and Glaze
Let the bread cool in the pan for 10–15 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack. If desired, drizzle with a simple powdered sugar glaze for an extra touch of sweetness.
