Preparing the potatoes:
Wash, peel and cut the potatoes into thin rings.
Finely chop the onion and garlic.
Wash the spinach and, if using frozen, defrost and drain.
To make the spinach layer:
Heat the olive oil in a pan and sauté the onion and garlic.
Add the spinach and sauté until it is wilted.
Season with salt, pepper and nutmeg.
Add the cream and bring to the boil.
Prepare the oven:
Preheat the oven to 180°C.
Grease an ovenproof dish.
Layering and baking:
Spread half of the potatoes on the bottom of the dish.
Pour half of the spinach layer on top.
Sprinkle with half of the grated cheese.
Repeat this once more.
Top with the potatoes and sprinkle with the remaining cheese.
Bake in the oven for approx. 40-50 minutes until the potatoes are soft and the cheese is melted.
Serving:
Remove from the oven and let cool for a few minutes, then cut into slices and serve.
Tips and variations:
