Recent reports highlight the intensity of the conflict, describing it as the “most intense running sea battle” in months. U.S. Navy Cmdr. Eric Blomberg emphasized the gravity of the situation, stating, “We only have to get it wrong once. The Houthis just have to get one through.”
The Houthis recently attacked a Greek-flagged oil tanker on August 21, leaving it ablaze and adrift. While the Houthis did not claim direct responsibility, the British military attributed the attack to them.
CENTCOM announced that it had destroyed a Houthi uncrewed aerial vehicle and a surface vessel near Yemen, citing a “clear and imminent threat” to U.S. and coalition forces. Rear Admiral Marc Miguez revealed that more aggressive strategies were considered but were not implemented due to concerns about provoking Iran. Miguez stated that future actions may need to be more assertive.
