Instructions
Step 1: Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Step 2: Mix Dry Ingredients
In a large bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar. Whisk together until well mixed.
Step 3: Cut in Butter
Add the cold, cubed butter to the flour mixture. Use a pastry cutter or your fingers to blend until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
Step 4: Add Wet Ingredients
Pour in the milk and vanilla extract (if using). Stir until just combined. Do not overmix; the dough should be slightly sticky.
Step 5: Shape the Biscuits
Turn the dough onto a floured surface. Gently knead it a few times until it comes together. Pat it into a 1-inch thick rectangle. Use a biscuit cutter or a glass to cut out biscuits.
Step 6: Bake
Place the biscuits on the prepared baking sheet. Bake for 12-15 minutes or until they are golden brown.
Step 7: Serve
Let the biscuits cool slightly before serving. Enjoy them warm with butter or your favorite spread!
