Here we have the lowly peppermint oil. Peppermint essential oil has a long history of popularity due to its many uses and pleasant aroma. It is extracted from the leaves of the peppermint plant, namely Mentha piperita. However, it also has strong rodent-repelling characteristics, which is something that a lot of people don’t know.
Because of their excellent sense of smell, rodents like rats and mice find peppermint oil to be an extremely repulsive fragrance. To naturally deter rats from further exploration of your yard, try scattering cotton balls coated with peppermint oil in strategic places, especially in areas where the pests are known to congregate.
