Peppermint oil, when applied as directed, is completely harmless and non-toxic, unlike poison baits or traps that can accidentally injure non-target species or endanger children and pets. This approach is completely safe for the environment and other animals.

Just follow these procedures for this natural remedy to work:

Find a reliable source of pure, undiluted peppermint oil and purchase it. It must be of good quality. If you want your product to perform as advertised, avoid chemicals and synthetic diluents.

Place a few cotton balls in a small bowl and soak them in peppermint oil. Cotton balls or even small pieces of cloth can also be used.

The best places to place cotton balls in your garden are in high-traffic areas where rodents like rats and mice congregate, such as around compost bins, garden sheds, and fences.
