Authorities have confirmed the cause of death for Ohio State University student William Meyers, whose body was discovered inside the university’s football stadium on September 26.
According to an autopsy report from the Franklin County Coroner’s Office obtained by PEOPLE, Meyers, 19, died by suicide following a fall at the stadium.
Emergency responders were dispatched to Ohio Stadium at 9:56 a.m. that morning after receiving a call, The Columbus Dispatch reported.
In a statement previously provided to PEOPLE, Ohio State University acknowledged the tragedy, confirming “a fatality at the stadium” and identifying the student as William Meyers of Fairfield, Connecticut.
“Foul play is not suspected and there is no ongoing threat to the community,” the university said. “Our thoughts are with his family and friends during this difficult time. Counseling and Consultation Services are available for students in need of support.”
According to his LinkedIn profile, Meyers was a third-year accounting student who co-founded a charity with his older brother dedicated to donating new and gently used sports equipment to local community centers.
“Some of my core values are respect, ethics, improvement, and integrity — all of which I want to bring with me when I enter the workforce,” he wrote on his profile. “In my free time, I enjoy playing word games such as Scrabble as well as learning and performing magic tricks.”
A graduate of Fairfield Ludlowe High School in Connecticut’s Class of 2023, Meyers was described by those who knew him as ambitious, kind, and community-minded.
His death marks the second suicide at Ohio Stadium in recent years. In May 2024, 53-year-old Larissa Brady died by suicide during the university’s spring commencement ceremony.
