Step-by-Step Guide to Cleaning Your Bed with an Iron
1. Vacuum the Mattress
Start by thoroughly vacuuming your mattress to remove dust, dirt, and any loose debris. Use the upholstery attachment to get into all the crevices and seams.
2. Apply Baking Soda
Sprinkle a generous amount of baking soda over the entire surface of the mattress. Baking soda helps to deodorize and lift dirt from the fabric.
3. Prepare the Iron
Fill your iron with distilled water and set it to the steam setting. Make sure the temperature is set according to the fabric type of your mattress. Most mattresses can handle medium heat, but check the manufacturer’s recommendations if you’re unsure.
4. Steam the Mattress
Place the clean, white cloth or towel over the stained or dirty area of the mattress. This cloth will act as a barrier between the iron and the mattress fabric, preventing any damage.
Press the hot iron onto the cloth and hold it there for a few seconds. The heat and steam from the iron will penetrate the cloth, loosening the dirt and grime in the mattress. Move the iron in circular motions over the cloth to ensure even coverage.
