1. Identify the Infested Areas: Inspect your mattress carefully for signs of bed bugs, including live bugs, shed skins, eggs, or dark spots of bed bug excrement.
2. Vacuum the Mattress: Use a vacuum cleaner with a brush attachment to thoroughly vacuum the entire surface of the mattress, paying close attention to seams, tufts, and edges where bed bugs may hide. Dispose of the vacuum bag immediately in a sealed plastic bag outside your home.
3. Steam Clean: Steam cleaning is an effective method for killing bed bugs and their eggs. Use a steam cleaner with a high-temperature setting (at least 130°F or 54°C) to steam the entire surface of the mattress, focusing on areas where bed bugs are most likely to hide.
