Celine, at the age of 55, has been diagnosed with a rare neurological disorder called Stiff Person Syndrome, a condition that leads to uncontrollable muscle spasms. This condition is so rare that it affects only one in a million people. The diagnosis came in December, and it had a profound impact on Celine’s life and career. She had to make the heart-wrenching decision to cancel her world tour, disappointing fans worldwide.
Claudette, aged 74, expressed the family’s helplessness in the face of this debilitating condition. “It’s an illness we know so little about,” she said. “There are spasms – they’re impossible to control. There’s little we can do to support her, to alleviate her pain. We’re crossing our fingers that researchers will find a remedy for this awful illness.”
Although there is no cure for Stiff Person Syndrome, there are treatments available to slow down its progression. Despite the challenges, Celine is demonstrating remarkable resilience and remains committed to her fans.
