Dishwasher tablets: the magic trick to clean all the dirtiest places in the house | April 9, 2025

We’ve all felt helpless at least once when faced with the dirt and grime that creeps into our homes. Especially when unsightly, stubborn stains lurk in the corner of our eyes, determined to stay put for a long time. However, you can make your cleaning easier and eliminate all stains and dirt with dishwasher tablets. Find out how you can use them for your spring cleaning.

Dishwashing tablets aren’t just useful for washing dishes. Their unexpected uses allow you to effectively clean your entire home.

1. Descaling the toilet bowl with dishwasher tablets

Toilet bowls often have unsightly limescale stains, which can vary in color, from yellow to orange to even brown. Be aware that hard water is the cause of these stains. This water, rich in minerals like calcium and magnesium, can cause limescale to form when left to stagnate in the bowl.

To clean your toilet bowl, the trick is simple: throw a dishwasher tablet into the bowl and wait for it to dissolve. Then, scrub the sides of the bowl with the toilet brush. This will easily restore your bowl’s whiteness.

2. De-clogging the oven

Here’s an effective tip for getting rid of burnt stains on the bottom of your oven, even if they’re stubborn.

Dilute one tablet in hot water, soak a sponge in the solution, and wipe it over the dirty areas of the oven, paying particular attention to stains and burnt-on marks. After cleaning the oven, wipe it with a damp microfiber sponge to remove the liquid and any loosened stains.

3. Degrease the dishes

Sometimes, the dishes or utensils we use contain stains that are difficult to remove using only the dishwasher. In this case, consider cleaning them manually with a tablet. The trick is simple: pour hot water into your dish, pot, or pan and dilute a dishwasher tablet. Let it sit for 1 hour or even overnight for best results. All you have to do is scrub your utensil with a sponge to remove grease residue and burnt marks.

4. Clean the washing machine drum

The washing machine drum accumulates numerous germs and bacteria. Not to mention that the moisture that covers the drum seals promotes mold growth. All of these unpleasant effects lead to unpleasant odors and stains on your laundry.

So remember to throw two tablets into the drum and run an empty wash cycle at 60°C. Repeat this every two months to clean your washing machine of dirt and embedded germs and thus increase the lifespan of your appliance.

5. Make the shower stall shine

Limescale stains and soap scum quickly dirty your shower screen, dulling its shine. To clean your shower enclosure, dilute a tablet in hot water, soak a sponge in the mixture, and scrub the walls to remove limescale.

6. Deodorize trash cans

To clean and deodorize your trash cans, fill them with hot water and toss a dishwasher tablet inside. Let it sit for a few hours after the tablet dissolves, then empty and rinse your trash cans.
