Doctor: 5 factors that are detrimental to colon health

The oncologist recommends that a person undergo regular (at least once a year) examinations and undergo the necessary tests.

“In this case, the disease can be detected at an early stage, significantly increasing the chances of a complete cure,” the expert says.

According to the WHO, bowel cancer can occur in anyone, but medical statistics most often show it in men over the age of 50. And this has a completely logical explanation, says oncologist Pavel Istomin.

“Many men do not take care of their health until they develop dangerous symptoms. Until then, men allow themselves almost anything they want – alcohol, cigarettes, fatty meat, etc. In this regard, women are more cautious: they try to maintain a slim figure and health until old age. And this gives excellent results,” says the doctor.

“The specific thing about bowel cancer is that it does not manifest itself for a long time. Until your health deteriorates completely and it will no longer be possible to ignore the body’s prompts, because this significantly changes the quality of life,” says the specialist.

According to the oncologist, colon cancer affects all parts of the colon, but often “settles” in a specific part of it – the left or right. Depending on this, the symptoms of the disease vary.

Thus, with a tumor in the right part of the intestine, a person usually experiences severe weakness and fatigue, has pronounced symptoms of anemia, and experiences weight loss without dieting or reducing the calorie content of the diet.

If the tumor is localized on the left side, then most often the patient experiences health problems such as frequent constipation, flatulence, abdominal pain, blood and pain during bowel movements, discharge from the rectum with signs of pus.
