One of life’s greatest pleasures is tending a garden. It is really fulfilling to see your plants flourish and to eat the veggies (or should I say fruits!) that you have grown. The world isn’t always a bed of roses, however. The fight against pests is never-ending, and in the insect kingdom, it may be difficult to tell friends from enemies.
I was recently intrigued by a social media photograph of a leaf adorned with small, complex black geometric designs. It was so odd it may have been a plant disease or a lattice from another planet! My first reaction was one of concern, as did many others. However, the truth became apparent when one looked more closely – these intriguing patterns were really the eggs of Nymphalis Antiopa butterflies.
