Directions:
Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Roll out the pizza dough on a floured surface into a large circle, about 12 inches in diameter.
Spread the marinara sauce over half of the dough, leaving a 1-inch border around the edge.
Sprinkle the mozzarella cheese over the sauce, then layer the pepperoni slices on top.
Fold the other half of the dough over the filling to create a half-moon shape. Pinch the edges together to seal the calzone.
In a small bowl, beat the egg with a splash of water to make an egg wash. Brush the top of the calzone with the egg wash.
Sprinkle the Parmesan cheese and Italian seasoning over the top of the calzone.
Carefully transfer the calzone to the prepared baking sheet and bake for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy.
Let the calzone cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving.
Variations & Tips:
Veggie version: Swap the pepperoni for sautéed mushrooms, bell peppers, onions, and spinach for extra color and nutrients.
Spicy twist: Add red pepper flakes or sliced jalapeños to the filling for heat.
Gourmet option: Use a mix of provolone, gouda, and mozzarella for a more sophisticated cheese flavor.
Quick prep: Use store-bought pizza dough or crescent roll dough for a faster meal.
