Unemployment did peak at 14.8% in April 2020 during Trump’s presidency, the highest since the Great Depression. However, it rapidly declined to 6.4% by January 2021 as the economy began to recover. Both Trump’s and Biden’s administrations achieved low unemployment rates, with Trump’s lowest at 3.5% and Biden’s at 3.4%.
The debate underscored the stark differences in economic policies and visions for the future presented by both candidates as they head into the final months of the campaign.
