Directions:

Prepare the Dough:
In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, salt, and yeast. In a separate bowl, whisk the warm milk with the egg, then pour the mixture into the dry ingredients. Mix until a soft dough forms. Add the butter and knead until the dough becomes smooth and elastic, about 8-10 minutes by hand or 5-6 minutes using a stand mixer.
First Rise:
Transfer the dough to a lightly greased bowl and cover it with a clean cloth or plastic wrap. Let it rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 1 to 1.5 hours.
Shape the Dough:
Punch down the risen dough and divide it into equal portions (usually 3 or 4). Shape each piece into a smooth ball or log. Place them side by side in a buttered loaf pan.
Second Rise:
Cover the shaped dough and let it rise again until it nearly reaches the top of the pan, about 45 minutes. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) during this time.
Brush and Bake:
Before baking, brush the tops of the dough with either melted butter or a beaten egg for a shiny, golden finish. Bake the loaf for 25–30 minutes, or until the top is deep golden and the loaf sounds hollow when tapped.
Cool and Serve:
Let the bread cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack. Slice once completely cool or enjoy warm for a soft, pillowy bite.
