Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Dough
- In a mixing bowl, combine warm milk and yeast. Let sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
- Add sugar, melted butter, vanilla, salt, and egg. Mix well.
- Gradually add flour, stirring until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 8 minutes until smooth.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise for 1 hour until doubled in size.
Step 2: Make the Cinnamon Filling
- In a small bowl, mix brown sugar and cinnamon.
- Roll out the dough into a rectangle on a floured surface.
- Spread softened butter over the dough and sprinkle with the cinnamon-sugar mixture.
Step 3: Roll and Bake
- Roll the dough tightly into a log and cut into 12 equal rolls.
- Place rolls in a greased baking dish.
- Cover and let rise for another 30 minutes.
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.
Step 4: Prepare the Glow-in-the-Dark Frosting
- In a mixing bowl, beat butter until creamy.
- Gradually add powdered sugar, mixing well.
- Add tonic water and vanilla extract, continuing to mix until smooth. (The quinine in the tonic water is what makes it glow under a blacklight!)
- If desired, mix in neon food coloring to enhance the glowing effect.
Step 5: Decorate and Serve
- Drizzle or pipe the frosting over the warm cinnamon rolls.
- Add edible glitter or glow-in-the-dark sprinkles for extra magic.
- Turn on the blacklight and watch your cinnamon rolls glow!
