Grandma’s tip: easily clean your iron and restore its shine in one easy step

Ingredients:

  • 3 tablespoons white vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon fine salt
  • A paper towel or a soft cloth

Method:

  1. Mix vinegar and salt in a small bowl.
  2. Soak a paper towel in the mixture and then gently rub the sole.
  3. Then wipe with a damp cloth.

Warning   : Never use a scouring pad or the green side of regular sponges, as this may damage the non-stick coating.

For an aluminum iron: cleaning with salt

If your iron is made of aluminum, choose dry cleaning – without water or vinegar – to avoid oxidation.

Ingredients:

  • Pergamentpapper
  • Fine salt

Method:

  1. Heat the iron to a low temperature.
  2. Sprinkle salt on a sheet of baking paper.
  3. Slowly move the hot sole over the paper using small circular movements.
  4. Let cool and then wipe with a damp cloth.

Why does it work?   Salt acts as a natural abrasive: it removes impurities without scratching the surface.

For the steam valves: the detail that makes all the difference

Limescale deposits can clog the holes and impair steam. A little targeted cleaning is necessary.

Ingredients:

  • White vinegar
  • Cotton swab

Method:

  1. Dip a cotton swab in the vinegar.
  2. Gently run it through each hole to loosen the deposits.
  3. Then wipe the sole with a clean, damp cloth.
