1. In a large bowl, combine ground beef, onion, garlic, salt, pepper, paprika, Worcestershire sauce, and egg. Mix gently until well combined.
2. Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and shape each into a patty about 1.5 cm thick.
3. Preheat a grill or skillet over medium-high heat. Cook patties for 4–5 minutes on each side or until desired doneness.
4. Toast burger buns lightly on the grill or in a pan.
5. Assemble burgers by placing lettuce on the bottom bun, then the beef patty, cheese (if using), tomato slices, pickles, and condiments. Top with the other bun.
6. Serve immediately while warm.
