Pillows Check the pillow maintenance instructions Before cleaning, make sure your pillows are machine washable. Most polyester or mixed cotton pillows can be washed safely, but some shape foam pillows require only cleaning of stains.
Prepare the cleaning solution
Mix 1/2 cup of sodium bicarbonate with 1 cup of white vinegar.
Add your usual laundry detergent (about 1 cup) and, if available, a tablespoon of Borax for an extra boost.
Fill your hot water washing machine and dissolve the cleaning mixture. Immerse the pillows with yellow in water and soak them for at least 30 minutes. This detaches the stains and prepares them for deep cleaning.
Make your washing machine work on a delicate cycle with hot water. Make sure you balance the load by washing two pillows at a time. This ensures that they do not clump during the draining cycle.
After washing, perform an additional rinsing cycle to remove any remaining detergent or vinegar.
Dry the pillows from the dryer on low heat with a few clean tennis or dryer balls. These help to inflate the pillows and maintain their shape. If you prefer air drying, make sure that the pillows dry completely to avoid mould.
