1/2 tsp crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
Directions
1. In a small bowl, mix the softened butter, garlic powder, dried oregano, and dried basil. Set aside.
2. Spread a generous layer of pizza sauce on two slices of sourdough bread.
3. Sprinkle a cup of shredded mozzarella cheese and a quarter cup of grated Parmesan cheese evenly on top of the pizza sauce on each of the slices.
4. Place the other two slices of sourdough bread on top to form two sandwiches.
5. Preheat a skillet or griddle over medium heat.
6. Spread the garlic herb butter mixture on the outside of each sandwich, making sure to coat both the top and bottom slices generously.
7. Place the sandwiches in the preheated skillet. Cook until the bread is golden brown and crispy, about 3-4 minutes per side, and the cheese inside is melted and bubbly.
8. If using, sprinkle a pinch of crushed red pepper flakes over the cheese before closing the sandwich.
Variations & Tips
For a spicier twist, add a few slices of pepperoni or a spoonful of diced jalapeños inside the sandwich before cooking. If you prefer a milder flavor, opt for a sweet marinara sauce instead of traditional pizza sauce. Using whole grain or gluten-free bread can also cater to specific dietary preferences. For extra flair, consider adding fresh basil leaves or a drizzle of balsamic glaze right before serving for a burst of flavor and a touch of sophistication
