According to readers’ experience since we first published the story, this is actually not such an unknown remedy for throat and cough, it is often used around the world to treat these conditions, and its taste and effect are improved by the addition of lemon and ginger.
Reneta Simova’s comment:
“Put 2 to 3 tablespoons of sugar in a dry saucepan over the heat. Be careful not to let it turn black, it should turn a caramel color, occasionally stirring and putting it back on the heat.”
When the sugar has melted and has a uniform color, add enough water for one cup of tea, let it boil and the sugar dissolve well to make a tea-like drink.

Remove the pot from the heat and serve the tea in a cup with a small sprig of dried basil and half a teaspoon of butter. Cover with a cup for 3 minutes, then enjoy the taste. Very nice and useful for sore throats and coughs. Can be consumed three times a day. Greetings!
