How to clean yellowed pillows and mattresses
Everyone has a pillow or mattress that has turned yellow, and we’re often not sure how to properly clean them.
These stains, most often caused by sweat, can be easily removed with the help of a few simple and effective tips.
Yellow spots and streaks can appear even if you use a mattress cover or pillowcase.
The main reason is sweat penetrating the fabric. Other factors can also cause yellowing — such as oily creams or body and hair oils. However, there are a few easy ways to clean a yellowed pillow or mattress.
Cleaning with white vinegar
White vinegar is one of the best household helpers. It is non-toxic, disinfects and removes stains.
To clean, pour 500 ml of vinegar into a bowl, add a little dishwashing detergent and mix with 200 ml of warm water. Soak a sponge in the solution and rub the mattress or pillow. Then rinse with clean water using a cloth and let it air dry overnight.
