Neurosurgeons report that if you manage to provide assistance within 3 hours, the consequences can be avoided. The important thing is to identify the stroke and start acting within this short period, and this, of course, is not so easy.
Four ways that can help you recognize a stroke:
1. Tell the person to smile as widely as possibleΒ (he will have difficulty doing this).
2. Ask him to say a simple sentenceΒ (for example: βIt is raining nowβ).
3. Ask him to raise his armsΒ (with a stroke he will not be able to raise them at all or only partially).
4. Ask the person to stick out their tongueΒ (if it is crooked or turned, you should take them to the hospital).
Attention should also be paid to the appearance of:
β’ numbness of the limbs,
β’ sudden severe headache,
β’ dizziness,
β’ sudden deterioration of vision,
β’ slurred speech,
β’ loss of balance or orientation.
If difficulties arise with at least one of these points,Β immediately call emergency servicesΒ and describe the symptoms over the phone.
By knowing these simple signs, you can provide timely assistance and, perhaps, save the life of a person next to you.
There are other alarming signs of a stroke: sudden weakness, darkening before the eyes or loss of vision in one eye, sharp pain in the head accompanied by nausea or vomiting, inability to understand speech, disorientation in spaceΒ ,Β loss of stability or consciousness.
