• Kevin Costner, who worked with Jones in Field of Dreams, shared on Instagram, “If you’ve seen it, you know that this movie wouldn’t be the same with anyone else in his role. Only he could bring that kind of magic to a movie about baseball and a corn field in Iowa. Rest in peace, friend.”
• Rob Minkoff, director of the 1994 The Lion King film, praised Jones for his portrayal of Mufasa, calling it “perfection” and stating, “Gone but will never be forgotten. Rest in power.”
• Barry Jenkins, who directed The Lion King (2019), posted a black and white photo of Jones with the caption, “Forever and always legendary.”
• Octavia Spencer expressed her sadness on Instagram: “Legendary doesn’t even begin to describe his iconic roles and impact on cinema forever… Sending love to his family, friends, and countless fans in all galaxies, far, far away. 🤍🕊️”
• LeVar Burton, who co-starred with Jones in Guyana Tragedy: The Story of Jim Jones, reflected, “There will never be another of his particular combination of graces.”
• Bob Iger, Disney CEO, shared a moving tribute on Disney’s Instagram page, celebrating Jones’ “gentle wisdom” as Mufasa and his “menacing threat” as Darth Vader. “A celebrated stage actor with nearly 200 film and television credits to his name, the stories he brought to life… have left an indelible mark on generations of audiences.”
