Instructions:
Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
Prepare the Base: In a mixing bowl, combine the German chocolate cake mix, half of the evaporated milk, and melted butter. Stir until a thick dough forms.
Layer and Bake: Press half of the dough into the prepared baking dish. Bake for 8-10 minutes until slightly set.
Caramel Layer: Meanwhile, in a saucepan, melt the caramels with the remaining evaporated milk over low heat, stirring until smooth.
Assemble the Bars: Pour the melted caramel over the baked layer. Sprinkle with chocolate chips and chopped pecans.
Top Layer: Flatten pieces of the remaining dough and place them over the caramel layer. It won’t cover completely, but that’s okay!
Bake Again: Return to the oven and bake for an additional 20-25 minutes until set.
Cool and Serve: Allow the bars to cool completely before cutting. Dust with powdered sugar if desired.
Enjoy these rich, gooey, and utterly irresistible dessert bars!
