She added: “I remember I called everybody and said, ‘Why is everyone saying I have no money? This is ridiculous, I have five No. 1 singles.’
“And they said, ‘Well, you’re $3 million in debt.’”
Never one to stay down, she did end up working her way out of debt and has gone in the better direction to a great extent. According to Forbes, she was worth about $150 million in 2020.
That being said, she never thought that the music was about the money.
