But their happiness was soon overshadowed by concern. Adam was swiftly surrounded by medical staff, and Andrea’s husband, having caught only a glimpse of his son, reported, “Honey, there’s something wrong with Adam’s leg.” As Andrea lay alone in the ward, the uncertainty and worry grew, especially as she was left without clear information about her newborn.
The diagnosis came as a shock: Adam had Cutis Marmorata Telangiectatica Congenita (CMTC), a rare vascular malformation with fewer than 500 known cases globally. Despite his initial tests showing his vital organs were unaffected, Andrea faced an exhausting period in the NICU, spending four sleepless days by Adam’s side.
Fortunately, Adam was eventually allowed to go home with specific care instructions. As time passed, it became clear that Adam was a resilient fighter. Today, he’s a cheerful young boy with a love for math, chess, and sports, despite his condition making his leg weak.
