The line clicked again, and I heard Mr. Jackson’s voice, calm and measured. “Claire, how can I help you today?”
“Mr. Jackson,” I started, “I just received the amended trust document from my mother. I was hoping you could explain what this means for me and my brother.”
There was a pause on the other end, a hesitation that made my heart skip a beat. “Claire, the amendment outlines some changes to the distribution of assets. It’s important you discuss this with your mother directly, as she can provide her reasoning behind the adjustments.”

I sighed, realizing this conversation wouldn’t yield the clarity I was hoping for. “Thank you, Mr. Jackson. I appreciate your time,” I said, ending the call with more questions than answers.
My brother’s reply came through just as I set the phone down: “We need to meet. This sounds serious. I’m coming over.”
His urgency matched my own, and I found comfort in the fact that we would face this together. Whatever our mother had decided, we would navigate it as a united front.
