My Sister Handed Me A Document And Said “You Should Read This” — Then Left The Room

The conversation left me feeling hollow. I watched her leave, a part of me wanting to chase after her, but another part too exhausted to try. I stayed in the café, replaying her words, trying to reconcile the sister I knew with the one who had just walked out. The will was a tangible reminder of our fractured relationship.

Returning to the lawyer’s office, I sought clarification. “Is there a way to contest this?” I asked, the lawyer’s expression unreadable, much like Jane’s had been.

“There are legal avenues,” he replied, his voice measured. “But it could be costly and time-consuming.”

Time and money were commodities I wasn’t sure I could afford. The lawyer handed me a brochure detailing the process, the legal jargon almost mocking in its complexity.

“I’ll think about it,” I said, leaving the office with more questions than answers.
