Ingredients:
White vinegar
Baking soda
Lemon juice
Salt
Potato (yes, really!)
Aluminum foil
A scrubbing brush or steel wool
A clean cloth
Instructions:
1. White Vinegar Soak
Vinegar contains acetic acid, which breaks down rust naturally.
Soak a cloth in white vinegar and wrap it around the rusted area.
Leave it for a few hours or overnight for deep rust.
Scrub with steel wool or a brush, then wipe clean.
2. Baking Soda Paste
Make a paste by mixing baking soda and water (thick consistency).
Apply it to the rusted surface and let it sit for 30 minutes to an hour.
Scrub off using a scrubbing brush or steel wool and rinse with water.
3. Lemon and Salt Scrub
Sprinkle salt over the rusted area.
Squeeze fresh lemon juice on top.
Let it sit for 2-3 hours, then scrub with a brush.
Rinse with water and wipe dry.
4. Potato and Baking Soda Trick
Cut a potato in half and dip it in baking soda or salt.
Rub the rusted area with the cut side of the potato.
The oxalic acid in potatoes helps break down rust.
5. Aluminum Foil Scrub
Crumple a piece of aluminum foil and dip it in water or vinegar.
Rub the foil over rusted metal to gently lift the rust without scratching.
Serving and Storage Tips:
Keep Metal Dry: Moisture accelerates rust, so always dry metal surfaces thoroughly after cleaning.
Apply Oil or Wax: Lightly coat metal parts with vegetable oil, beeswax, or mineral oil to prevent future rusting.
Use a Dehumidifier: Reduce humidity in your home to minimize rust formation.
