“Never buy eggs like that again, even if the discount is big and the price seems good”

But that wasn’t the main reason not to buy such eggs. My mother-in-law explained to me that eggs  shouldn’t be stored with the sharp end up  – that’s dangerous. Have you ever thought about it? Manufacturers always pack them with the blunt end up. I never thought about why.

She told me that there is a small  air “pocket” at the blunt end of the egg that protects the yolk from bacteria, including salmonella. I always wash my eggs before using them, sometimes even with soap. But this air pocket should be on top, because that way the eggs will last longer and remain safe to eat.

Honestly, I didn’t even know about this! My mother-in-law made a real discovery for me. Now, when I buy eggs,  I always check how they are arranged in the package  – because even small details can be important.
