Robert further argued that James’ suggestion for Trump to secure a series of smaller bonds would not resolve the issue because lenders are still unwilling to offer a bond using both cash and property as collateral. According to his letter, separate bonds would still require total collateralization of cash or equivalents in excess of $557 million, regardless of the number of sureties involved.
Judge Arthur Engoron ruled in February that Trump, along with his adult sons, was liable for committing “numerous acts of fraud and misrepresentation” to inflate his net worth and obtain more favorable loan terms. Consequently, Engoron ordered Trump to pay $464 million in disgorgement and pre-judgment interest. Trump has denied any wrongdoing and is currently appealing the decision.
