– That’s right. Or he imitated the animals, who also found a way to self-medicate. But in the end, we, constantly consuming such plants, were the fastest to establish their positive, calming effects on the digestive system. People realized that when they eat an herb or add some spice to their meal, they feel good afterwards. Their stomachs don’t feel heavy, they digest food better, they have no problems. And they began to observe these herbs, collect them, dry them, apply them either as spices, or as decoctions, or simply eat them as fresh herbs…
So, for this reason, a huge number of medicinal plants have accumulated that treat gastrointestinal diseases. Much later in time, people began to discover other herbs that have an effect on the cardiovascular system, sleeping herbs and, of course, poisonous herbs, which were used a lot in the past to settle scores. One of the best described effects is that of the rock rose, but there are many other herbs that have a similar effect.
– Since it grows like a weed along the beaches, can’t I plant it in a section and cut some for tea when I need it?
– This is an interesting question. The rock rose is a herb that is very resistant and thrives in extreme conditions – on sandy, rocky soils, without water, usually on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea, where there are stormy winds, salt water, very strong heat, high temperatures.
However, this herb exists undisturbed. But it is quite difficult if we decide to grow it at home, since it seeks out unfavorable conditions. That is, we have to plant it in soil that is rocky, sandy. If we plant it in normal soil, it will not grow well. And it also builds a symbiosis in its roots with specific bacteria, which in turn need a certain type of soil, they provide it with important nutrients.
So if these bacteria are not present on the roots of the plant, it would be difficult for it to survive. It has created an interesting environment with interesting partners with whom it makes friends. I have seen many botanical sites and sites that deal with landscaping gardens in England, in Germany, which offer the herb and give instructions on how to grow it, where to plant it, how it would sprout, because it is a very beautiful flower. But growing it in general is difficult, we can rather observe it in its wild environment.
