The airport confirmed the airport is “open and operating normally”.
Sussex Police said eight people have been arrested and were removed from the premises.
They added no disruption was caused by the sit-down demo but a heightened police presence should be expected.
None of the activists were able to get into the airport, the Metropolitan Police said.
