“I went out with a coworker who invited me to help him pick out furniture for his new house. He promised dinner in exchange for my opinion. We spent two hours at the store, but he critiqued everything I liked, telling me what was wrong with each piece. We left without buying anything and went to KFC, where we ate at his kitchen counter because he didn’t have a table or chairs. Then he announced it was time for bed—more accurately, to the mattress on the floor since he had no bed. I picked up my purse and headed for the door. He was insulted and disappointed that we wouldn’t end the evening with coitus.”
