Instructions: Crafting Your Deep-Dish Pizza
Prepare the Dough: In a large bowl, mix the warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until it becomes frothy. In another bowl, combine the flour and salt. Gradually add the yeast mixture and olive oil to the flour, mixing until a dough forms. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth. Place it in a greased bowl, cover it with a cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until it doubles in size.
Make the Sauce: In a medium saucepan over medium heat, add a splash of olive oil and sauté the minced garlic until fragrant. Add the crushed tomatoes, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 15-20 minutes to let the flavors meld.
Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
Shape the Dough: After the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it in half. Roll out one half into a circle large enough to fit your deep-dish pizza pan (typically 12 inches). Grease the pan with olive oil and press the dough into the bottom and up the sides of the pan.
Layer the Ingredients: Start by layering the shredded mozzarella cheese evenly on the bottom of the crust. Next, add the sliced pepperoni, followed by a generous scoop of the simmered tomato sauce.
Top It Off: Roll out the second half of the dough and place it on top of the sauce, crimping the edges to seal the pizza. Cut a few slits in the top crust to allow steam to escape. Sprinkle with grated Parmesan cheese for an extra touch of flavor.
