Step 1: The Foundation β Eliminate Attractants
No repellent will work long-term if your bathroom still offers bugs what they need. Start here:
Fix leaks immediately. Check under sinks, around toilets, and behind shower panels.
Wipe down surfaces daily to remove moisture and residue.
Seal cracks with silicone caulk around pipes, baseboards, and window frames.
Use drain covers and clean drains weekly with boiling water or a baking soda + vinegar mix.
Store towels and linens dry, and keep bathroom trash sealed and emptied regularly.
Improve ventilation. Run the fan during and after showers, and open windows when possible.
πΏ Step 2: Make a Natural Repellent Spray
Certain essential oils disrupt insectsβ ability to locate food and shelter. This spray creates a scent barrier theyβll avoid.
π Ingredients
10β15 drops peppermint essential oil (strongly repels ants, spiders, some roaches)
5 drops tea tree or eucalyptus oil (adds antifungal/antimicrobial power)
1 teaspoon white vinegar (cleans and helps repel)
1 cup distilled water
π Instructions
Combine all ingredients in a clean spray bottle.
Shake well before each use.
Lightly mist along baseboards, under sinks, around drains, window sills, and potential entry points.
Reapply every 3β4 days or after cleaning.
π‘ Pro tip: Spray in the evening when many pests are most active.
π« What This Spray Will NOT Do
β Instantly kill cockroaches or ants (itβs a repellent, not a poison).
β Replace professional pest control for severe infestations.
β Work forever without reapplication.
β Compensate for a damp, cluttered, or unclean bathroom.
