Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 350Β°F (175Β°C) and grease a baking pan.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine flour, softened butter, and powdered sugar. Press the mixture into the bottom of the prepared pan to form the crust.
  3. Bake the crust for 15-20 minutes or until lightly golden. Allow it to cool while you prepare the custard.
  4. In a saucepan over medium heat, whisk together milk, granulated sugar, cornstarch, and salt. Stir continuously until the mixture thickens.
  5. In a separate bowl, lightly beat the egg yolks. Gradually add a small amount of the hot milk mixture to the beaten eggs, whisking constantly to temper the eggs.
  6. Pour the tempered egg mixture back into the saucepan with the remaining hot milk mixture. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the custard thickens.
  7. Remove the saucepan from heat and stir in butter and vanilla extract until well combined.
  8. Pour the vanilla custard over the cooled crust in the baking pan.
  9. Allow the custard bars to cool to room temperature, then refrigerate for at least 2 hours or until fully set.
  10. Once set, cut into squares, serve, and relish the heavenly taste of Vanilla Custard Bars!
