For many, mashed potatoes are more than just a side dish — they’re a comforting, nostalgic staple that brings people together around the dinner table.
But could your go-to method for making mashed potatoes be holding you back from achieving culinary greatness? According to a viral TikTok hack, the answer might just lie in what you boil them in.
Comedian Jourdyn Parks, also known as @jeauxp on TikTok, shared her twist on traditional mashed potatoes, and it has foodies everywhere rethinking their approach. Parks suggests ditching plain water for a flavorful stock when boiling your potatoes, claiming it’s the ultimate way to infuse flavor and elevate the dish.
“I know you can boil your potatoes in water,” Parks explained to BuzzFeed after her hack gained popularity back in 2021. “In fact, it’s probably the most common way. I just can’t figure out why you’d choose to when stock and broth are options.”
